Karen Law
Karen Law qualified as a Solicitor in 2007 and has nearly 20 years’ experience dealing in all aspects of Wills, Probate, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Trusts.
Karen is also proud to be a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners which she completed in 2013 after studying for 3 years alongside practicing as a Solicitor.
Karen provided an advisory service to Age UK clients over a period of 15 years and prides herself in dealing with clients in a compassionate and caring manner
Tina O'Brien
Tina joined the firm in 2020 and has a wealth of experience in dealing with Probate, Wills, Trusts, Lasting Power of Attorney's and Deputyship applications to the Court of Protection.
She qualified as a solicitor in 2005, working locally for the last 10 years. She gained extensive knowledge and experience during this period as well as respect in the local community she served. She prides herself on her down to earth approach and ensuring that her clients are confident in her ability to complete matters promptly and efficiently.

The following price guides do not apply to contested estates or to estates where there are assets outside the UK. VAT is payable on our fees at the rate of 20%

Our fees (excluding VAT & Disbursements) £800 - £2,000 (for illustrative purposes VAT on £800 would currently be £160, and on £2,000 would currently be £400) In addition to our legal fees, £18.00 (£15.00 + VAT) will be payable per individual for an online identification search to comply with our money laundering obligations |

What is not included: This service does not include obtaining details of the assets and liabilities of the estate, the distribution of the estate, Deeds of Variation, dealing with Department of Work and Pensions investigations, dealing with claims againt the estate, locating missing beneficiaries, transferring /selling property in the estate, or establishing and administering trusts created by the Will or searching for unknown assets. |
Disbursements
In addition to the legal fees there will also be disbursements (fees payable to third parties). The most common of these are listed below:

The exact cost of the application for Probate will depend on the particular circumstances of the estate. For example if there is one beneficiary, a small number of investments and the short Inheritance Tax Return is required, the costs will be at the lower end. If there are multiple beneficiaries and/or investments and/or a full Inheritance Tax Return is required, the gifts the costs will be at the higher end. Please speak to a member of our Wills, Trusts, Tax and Probate team who will be able to give you a more accurate price for the estate concerned.
If unforeseen issues arise in relation to the estate there may be additional charges but we will discuss these with you before the costs are incurred.
It takes approximately 12 weeks from the date on which we receive full details of the estate from the client to obtain the Grant of Probate.
VAT is payable on our fees at the rate of 20%

The costs of administering estates vary. It all depends on the particular circumstances of the estate concerned. For example, if there is one beneficiary, no property, a small number of investments and the short Inheritance Tax Return is required, the cost will be on or near the starting rate. If there are multiple beneficiaries and/or investments and/or a full Inheritance Tax Return is required, the costs could be significantly higher.

Karen Law – Solicitor £285 plus VAT
Tina O'Brien – Solicitor £285 plus VAT
Trainee Solicitor £225 plus VAT
Where VAT is payable on any of the above disbursements, this is at the current rate of 20%

Some indication is given regarding timescales for a Probate only application above, but timescales generally will depend on the complexity of estate and further information can be given after the initial meeting.
