The end of an era – A fond farewell to a valued colleague on her retirement!

22nd August 2019 marked the end of an era as far as RDC is concerned when the company bid a fond farewell to Lynn Bochonek on her retirement. It is hard to believe it but Lynn had spent 51 years working in the legal profession.

She started her employment with Nigel Ward at 14 Wells Road Ilkley (now the home of Smooth Deli) on the 15th July 1968. After a decade she “retired” to be a mum when her first son was born.

In 1993 Nigel telephoned her to tell her that he was relocating to 9 New Brook Street and wondered if she could help him out for 3 weeks. As one would say, the rest is history!

Lynn recalls one particular occasion when Nigel’s late mother called in to the office. Coincidently the late Mrs Ward had been one of Lynn’s teachers when she was growing up in Ilkley. She commented on how nice it was to see Lynn convinced that “all would be well now that he has you back”. Lynn was impressed by such a compliment, was suitably flattered and indeed has remembered the event vividly to this day.

Lynn has witnessed not only developments in the legal profession over the years but changes to the office at 9 New Brook Street. She was an integral part of the process when Nigel Ward and Co merged with RDC Solicitors on the 12th May 2009 and was still an integral part of the company when Nigel retired shortly after the two companies’ combined.

I am sure that our clients and colleagues will agree that the Ilkley office will not be the same without Lynn’s enthusiasm and effervescent personality. We wish Lynn a very long and happy retirement. We feel sure that she will enjoy the opportunity to spend more time with her husband Stefan, her family and in particular her grandchildren.
