Resolution – First For Family Law
Judith Fitzpatrick, solicitor and Head of the Family Law Team has recently been re-accredited by Resolution as a specialist family lawyer with particular expertise in Private Children Law and Complex Financial Remedies. Re-accreditation has been granted after a rigorous assessment process.
Resolution’s 6,500 members are family lawyers and other professionals committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes. It was formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA).
The cornerstone of membership of Resolution is adherence to the Code of Practice which sets out the principles of a non-confrontational approach to family law matters and the resolution of issues which arise upon the breakdown of a marriage or relationship. Amongst other matters the Code requires lawyers to deal with each other in a civilised way.
Not only does Resolution promote the highest standards of practice but it also supports the training and development of family lawyers as well as campaigning for improvements to family law and the family justice system.
When choosing a lawyer to deal with family law, it is always helpful to select a Resolution member who will emphasise a constructive approach to the matters which need to be resolved and encourage solutions which take into account the needs of the family as a whole. This is particularly important where there are children.
According to statistics produced by Resolution in over 90% of cases handled by Resolution lawyers, agreement is reached without the Court having to make the final decision.
