Joan Clegg
It is with great sadness that the Partners and Staff at RDC Solicitors learnt of the death of their colleague and friend Joan Clegg. Joan passed away on the 18th March 2014 aged 71.
As a senior conveyancing executive Joan was an integral part of the firm and its predecessor practices retiring in 2009 after 46 years. She was well known in the legal community for her practical, no nonsense approach to residential property transactions. She built up a wealth of experience and her attention to detail was second to none. Her clients respected her not only for her desire to “get the job done” but also to do it with good humour alongside a desire to provide as much support to them as she could during what sometimes can be a traumatic and anxious time. Joan was often, over her many years in practice, repeatedly instructed by the same clients or others to whom her services had been recommended.
Unfortunately, over the last few years, Joan had not enjoyed the best of health. Notwithstanding this her indomitable spirit enabled her to battle illness with the same courage and sense of humour as she had displayed throughout her working life. Despite having retired from RDC, this did not stop her calling into the office to meet with colleagues on a regular basis and to participate in social functions arranged by the firm.
Outside work Joan enjoyed, when she was well, holidaying abroad with her husband Alf and delighted in recounting tales of her expeditions. She was a loving mum to her daughter Judith and a proud Grandma to Danielle.
Joan will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her dedication to her clients, her complete loyalty to her colleagues and her engaging sense of humour. These days there are not many individuals who can be described as being “true characters” but Joan was and will remain in everyone’s memories as being such a person. It is sad that having devoted so much of her life to her work it was so tragically cut short without her being able to enjoy many more years of retirement with her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
